SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The heavyweight fight just never materialized. In the end, Fredericton High Black Kats showed its claws – and offensive teeth – on their way to a 97-58 win over the Saint John High Greyhounds.
The anticipated New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association AAA final between the two teams was just not much of a contest as the Black Kats took control early and never looked back, their offence clicking on all Final 12 cylinders. The game was played at Harbour Station in front of just under 3,000 fans.
The senior-laden Greyhounds, with all but one player in their Grade 12 year, couldn’t match Fredericton’s shot-making and fell behind too much, too early.
The Black Kats had a 26-11 lead after a quarter and raced into a 52-31 lead at halftime. Fredericton scored 30 third quarter points and coasted the rest of the way to earn the banner.
