SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The John Caldwell School Golden Knights don’t mind running. It was a series of offensive runs, however, that led them to yet another New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association Final 12 single A girls’ banner.
The Golden Knights of Grand Falls downed Harvey High Lakers 64-42 to win the championship in front of their supportive fans at Harbour Station. It was a game where the Lakers pushed John Caldwell early.
In fact, it was tied 16-16 at one point before the Golden Knights went on one of their patented runs. That deadlocked score was left in the dust when John Caldwell burst into a 34-19 lead at the half.
The Lakers went to the well early in the second half to try and cut into things and crept within 10 at one point before, you guessed it, another run by the black and gold put things away.
Olivia McClure paced John Caldwell with a game-high 16 points. Allie McCarthy had 15 and Gabby Rivard popped a dozen. Abigail McCarthy scored nine. Kate MacLean sunk 11 for the Lakers while Gracie Grieve scored nine and Isabelle Daigle eight.
